Black Magik has quietly put out a few self-released albums now, with The Conjuring Of Three being their latest offering. This Pennsylvania-based trio has definitely been prolific, having put out one full length album for each year of the band's existence, not an easy accomplishment. I am not familiar with their first two releases, but their latest album is a very solid effort of traditional thrash!
The production on the CD is quite adequate, especially for a self-released and the music is really good considering it's a three piece! The drums really bring the heaviness factor into play and the vocals are workmanlike if a bit on the ordinary side, however Kevin Kelly's axework is really solid! The riffs are sweet and the solos are blistering!! Definitely some fun thrash to be found on this little nugget of a CD.
The title track starts everything off well and Ninety-Nine is decent if a bit unspectacular, but the fun really starts to amp up with The Urge. From there things really move into high gear with Power and I, Eternal. Corporate Metal and Kill Zone keep the pressure up and at this point I am fully invested into the CD. A very thoroughly entertaining romp of thrashy goodness!!
While there are one or two tracks that I find to be a bit of a filler nature, there is a lot of good thrash on here as well. Corporate Metal and Kill Zone are both pretty cool. The band gambles a bit with back to back cover tunes to close out the CD, but they are both well done and it is obvious why they chose to do the Slayer track to close out the disc!!
Quality heavy metal from a relatively unknown source. It is finds like this that gives me the enjoyment of searching out new metal bands!! Recommended to thrashing minions everywhere!
