I love digging up and searching for new metal bands all over the place. Sure whenever you do a lot of digging you need to sift through the good and the bad, but that is half the fun. You just never know when you are going to come upon something special. I think I found that with Abstraction.
The band comes from Bulgaria and they have put together a phenomenal album full of entertaining arrangements with a mixture of incredibly good vocals, some great guitar work with engaging riffs and leads and some talented solos and a very solid rhythm section on top of it. The production is not pristine, but it is very good, particularly for a self-released effort such as this. In the last year I stumbled upon a handful of good bands from Bulgaria, and these guys might just have catapulted above the others!
The band isn't the heaviest metal on the planet, but they sure can put together some interesting songwriting and have a ton of smooth melody, yet at the same time know how to mix in the heavier tones as needed. Very well done.
I could list off my favorite tracks but that would just be pretty much a repeat of the song list at the top of this review. Some of the highlights would definitely be Wolf, Wondering, The Game, The Righteous Path and Shattered Pieces. In fact there is only one track on here, Piece Of Life that I just didn't get into as much.
Usually when you dig through the dirt you just come away with dirty hands and a trip to the laundromat, but sometimes you come away with something that you want to cherish and even when you are at the End Of Hope there is hope!!
