Gloryful - Ocean Blade
The second album in two years for Germany's new heavy/power metal force, Gloryful are back with another helping of metal majesty. Don't expect too much originality with Gloryful as they are not reinventing anything new here, but they do bring forth a very good sound and familiar subject matter as can be attested by their sleek album artwork.
Production is solid, if not quite the glitziest on the scene, which I dare say is probably a good thing. They do not quite have that typical European Power Metal sound as they do have some very traditionalist type footing here. Vocalist Johnny La Bomba does sound quite a bit like George Call from Aska, and in fact the band in general does remind me a bit of the Texas based outfit significantly.
The first half of the album in particular has a very solid sound as the first four tracks all kick in quite nicely with the title track probably getting the nod for the best song on the first half. Other good tracks to check out would be Black Legacy, All Men To The Arms and Siren Song, though this CD does a great job of moving along in its entirety.
If you are looking for something new and unique, you better keep looking, but if you want a piece of solid straight on traditional/power metal goodness, Ocean Blade should fit your needs very nicely. Now it is time for all metalheads to take arms and band heads!
