I am admittedly a snob of full length CDs over EPs. For years I pretty much ignored most EPs (yeah there have been some terrific ones over the years and I was known to make the occasional exception). Recently however, my eyes have opened up to just how much killer and forgotten metal one can find on an EP. I also have come under the appreciation of how the EP is a more viable option these years both as a financial asset to the band and also a means for them to keep their name out there with new music in a very cluttered field of bands trying to step out of the crowded pack.
Here we have the debut EP from a very talented band out of New Zealand. The style is pretty much traditional metal with some power metal vibes thrown in there. I am getting vibes of Iced Earth, some Maiden and a bevy of meat and potatoes metal all mixed in with Hamish Murray's own unique vocals (again a bit of a Barlow sound to him there?) which are blended with an almost doom-meets-70s feel on top of them, though he can hit the high notes nicely as well.
The production is really quite good and overall the entire EP is pretty smoking with songs such as Stand Together and Falling Down being very catchy with their heavy yet melodic vibe. The Age Of Kings makes a great closer with its epic feel and Sign Your Life Away is just another fine track that is worthy of mention as well.
I sincerely hope these guys don't rest on their EP for too long for as great as it is, it is still just an EP and I need more Fallen Order to sate my growing hunger for metal from this promising and talented band!!
